What are good options for solderless wiring for things like stir plates and STC-1000s.

And for bonus points where do I get them in Cork city?

Garry

Get some strip connectors and electrical tape. Available in woodies, b+q, maplin...

Dwyers electrical on forge hill is a great place to go browsing. Good prices and open weekends.

I recall scratching my head over lunch when someone posed a similar question.
Garry has an answer where I did not.
Good on ya Garry!

BTW, I have stirbar and rare earth Magnet from Hard drive.
(I owe LordEoin a stirbar, Garry a Magnet)

Sweet garry, dwyers is almost as close to me as MCI. Thought they were just appliances.

Actually have some electrical tape somewhere.

Kellihers Electrical in Little Island and Tramore road are open Saturday mornings too. You can't
browse though, you'd need to know what you want in advance.

LordEoin

also, once you're past the transformer and into low voltages the good old twist-n-tape does the job.
Just twist the bare wires into each other then tape them up tight.

mr hoppy

So if I'm attaching a mobile phone plug cable to the wire on computer fan (stir plate build) twist and tape is good enough?

It will do! It might come loose over time. By then you'll be a diy god and you'll know exactly why your fan isn't spinning  :P

mr hoppy

Yeah, I thought this hobby was about making beer not trying your hand as an amateur electrician. ;D

LordEoin

if the join is in the stirplate box it should never come loose.
if it's outside the box, then insulate with a little tape, then put a couple of winds of duct tape around it for support

Slightly off topic, but it's ok to just superglue the magnets on to the top of the fan?

johnrm

Yes, but use Insulating tape initially to balance the magnet.
Are you at work?
