Have an old Garmin Nuvi 310 Sat Nav here i am trying to update for my sister, i have installed all the updating download software on my laptop but it keeps telling me i have insufficient memory on the device. Since i am only trying to load the maps for UK and Irleand i would have thought the device would have enough ,memory for those ? There is no SD memory card with this sat nav but it can accept one, though i am not sure which one to get. She recently moved jobs and has not used it for a couple of years, when she tried it the other day of course it was all out of whack so needs to be refreshed by updating it. Any suggestions other than buying a new one would be appreciated. She needs it for her job.

Can you plug it into the laptop and delete the some of the current map files on it to free up some space?

Known issue with Garmins. Update doesn't overwrite old data. Google for it... You can manually delete the old files.

That's what i am trying to find out how to do but without success so far, would resetting the unit to factory settings do the job ? ::)

Yep same with watches manually delete old files
Primary: Back to Black Again (Michael Jackson stout)
Secondary:
Conditioning:  Breac Donn Imperial Amber Ale
Drinking: Cascade Reaction Amber Ale, Fear Gorm Irish stout, lonesome pilgrim pale ale
Planned: imperial stout, finlandia kit hack

I would back the satnav up first.    There is a function on Garmin Express to do that.

I use a Nuvi for my work on a daily bases .

Never had an issue with updates.  It deletes the old files automatically when uploading new maps.

If i just format the sat nav using my laptop function will that work or just bollix it up entirely ? ;D

I'd try and find the map files before doing that tbh.

Backed up the old map files and the image folder and then deleted them both of the device, update seems to be progressing now, will see tomorrow if it has all worked ;D
