In Dublin Tomorrow

Hi all,

There's a group of us heading to Dublin tomorrow for my bro's stag do. Getting into Connolly around 1 so I'm hoping to start the pub drinking leg in the Brew Dock, which I believe is close to Connolly. We're staying in a 5-star deluxe hostel in D'Olier street so will slowly be making our way there to get checked in.

My question is, what other craft-beer-friendly watering holes could we find on our way there? Don't need an extensive list; just 4 or 5. It probably won't matter after that  :-\

When I used to be in Dublin more often I didn't care what pubs I was in as long as they had Guinness, but I've become a real snob in recent years  :P

Cheers,

-Barry

After the Brewdock you can check out J.W Sweetman's brewpub just off O'Connell Bridge. Cassidy's on Westmoreland St has a good selection too, quite a young, hipster crowd there though so you may or may not like that. Porterhouse Central is only a few mins from your hostel as well.

Nice one Thomas. Thanks.

We'll be a few tinnies to the good coming off the train, but having some vague agenda early on would still be nice :) There's folk meeting us down there too so that'll help.

Cheers Shane. I'll get that printed off tonight so I can look like a proper tourist  :P

Haha. So the subliminal message I seem to be getting here is bring loads of money.

I've a €50 note and a cup full of coins from my last day out down South. I guess that's not going to see through the day after all  :'(

I'll just have to play up 'The accent' to get the young ladies to go all wobbly at the knees and buy me drinks.... again!

Cheers again for all the pointers for Saturday.

Managed to make it to 3 of the recommended pubs.
Firstly the Brew Dock from the train station. Couple of pints there. Could happily have stayed for more but we wanted to get checked in and lose the bags.
After checking in I managed to get us round to Sweetmans. Few more pints there and a bite to eat. Food was excellent, as was the beer selection.

Was really pushing my luck after that but somehow got all 12 of us wheeled round to Farringtons. Again, good spot. Had a brief chat with the barman there, whose name escapes me. Said he was reader of the NHC forum.

The rest of the evening was spent in the more populist establishments and with it went any chance of further craft beers, but I'd done pretty well, so was happy.

The rest of the night was a blur of Guinness, Tequila and kebabs.

Great day all round. Really going to try and not leave it so long till I'm back in Dublin. Always guaranteed a good ould day out. My bank manager might have other ideas, though  :o

Cheers,

-Barry

Oh aye: never letting an opportunity to educate folk on the joys of craft beer and ales, I gave a spare tin of Hobgoblin to 2 girls we got chatting to on the train down. Their reaction to it was priceless: Screwed up faces, comments such as 'That's stinkin', 'it tastes like liquorice' and 'do you actually LIKE this stuff?'. Class :)

They're right about the Hobgoblin ;)
Yeah, admittedly it's not the best out of a tin but they weren't getting my Punk IPA.

That's probably Shane in Farrington's you were talking to.
That's the fellow. Hope he wasn't too irritated by my slurred attempt at geniality after 10+ beers.

Just a quick one, around what time did u arrived to Brew Dock ?

Bazza

Hmmm, at the risk of walking into trouble here, we were there between about 1:30 and 3 in the afternoon. Bunch of Nordies, a Brummie, a Scouser, and a bloke from Glasgow. There was a mad eejit from Navan too, but he didn't join us till later.

Were you in there around the same time?
