Charlie Shiels Elements ?

I have looked on the website below and i can't find the kettle elements for putting in a keg boiler, i need to get a couple of them,is he not doing them anymore or am i just missing them on the site ?

That is my current Argos kettle elements from my HLT sorry added that pic after posting initially. Any idea how much the Charlie Shiels ones are ? On consult with a certain apple headed friend we still have no idea why this has happened,he has suggested the design below as a viable alternative with the coils not being as compressed together, since i have them out now for cleaning i want to get a couple spare in case they go pop next time.

The CS ones do i still have to earth them if using on a metal vessel of any kind orr are they earthed already through the plug ?

They're about 13 quid not including the lead

Is that scorched wort? If so it happens with the CS ones aswell, but a soak in Oxy sorts it out.

Over time the nickel plating comes off too, as these are meant for boiling water, not acidic wort.

No idea it was a large high gravity boil,my kettle looked the same as these,i had to keep switching between the kettle and the HLT to get a boil going,what a dose,i was only pasteurising though for 30 minutes(had to) so no worries there. Never had this happen before and with just getting back into the beginning of AG i have no idea what this is.

Oxy won't work on this i already tried,neither did a hot starsan bath,so i am off to town later to get me the biggest tub of citric i can find.

Note though that it's 1,500kW which is a bit low. I use 2 elements to heat the water and then leave one on for the boil. You'd be all day waiting for one of these to heat 20l to boiling.

Yes and the low KW is the one thing stopping me getting these.

Bit pricier than what i believe CS has them for but a very good link to have as backup,over 30 euro for one element though ouch.

Wouldn't bother with the citric and would go straight for the caustic. Had elements like that in the past, when I did BIAB, and found caustic was the only job with that much crud. You obviously need to be very careful with it.

Yea definitely on the pricer side. Didn't seem too bad at the time haha and I had them parcel motel to kerry so the shipping wasnt as bad

How much of a soak would the need or do i have to worry about how long i leave them in the caustic ?

A lot of extra sugars and stuff in the wort. Happens all the time. Oxy will get it off, eventually. Might take a few days.

if it's burnt on carbon oxy won't shift it,  trust me I have tried it. Caustic is also dodgy given how dangerous it is. I started to manually clean my with the back of a knife. it's a pain in the ass but it works. I also combine this with a green scouring pad and this generally shifts it.

After every boil I get at mine with the green pad to get any build up off the element. Working so far..
