Ooh sounds tasty, sort of an Imperial BIPA. Let us know how it turns out, I'm really interested in how peoples BIPAs are working out, especially with the roast grain going in so late. I want to do one soon but the info is still a bit contradictory out there and I've not tasted all that many examples.

nigel_c

I normally cold steep the carafa and add it to the boil for my BIPAs so will be interesting to see shat difference it makes. Sample is not roasty but with the amount of hops it might be a bit hard to find it.
Will report back in a few weeks.

Absolutely disgusted. Transferred to 2nd for dry hoppng and pulled a sample. Pure TCP. Never had a batch go that way before.
I think I'm going to cut my losses with it and just dump it.
There goes my finely tuned Christmas brew calender. And 400g of hops  >:( >:(

nigel_c

I'm going to put it down to severely  underpitching the yeast due to a higher mash efficiency and a rushed starter. So annoyed. To teach myself a lesson I should make me drink the lot. Wont do that again.

imark

I feel for you 😧. 400g of tasty hops too. That's a sickener!
Probably a wild yeast?

nigel_c

Wouldn't say so. No sourness or funky at all. Just TCP. The starter was pitched just as it started to come to life and it just might have been too much for it. Wasn't able to let it build up as was heading out of town so just pitched it. Lesson learned.

@nigel - what cleaner did you use on your fermenter before fermentation? TCP typically comes from not rinsing chlorine based cleaners / sterilisers out properly, and/or if you rinsed with tap water and there was high chlorine factors at play.
