Me computer is running hot as the 2 gigs of memory is maxing out and so wondering what to do. I have being told that I should get an external hard drive to remove all the pictures and that will help with the memory as well as protecting the pictures if the pc goes wallop. Any advice :-\

Get a new PC. They're cheap as chips now. Not worth upgrading yours. I doubt that the external disk will help.

I have similar problems, as too many pictures on my laptop. I bought a 1tb hard drive last year, and I'm trying to copy the pictures over, at the moment, but the HD is now acting up, so I don't think hard drives are the way to go either, as I had another one go kaput not so long ago. Does anyone save their pictures up to the cloud, and I don't mean the icloud, as I am not an apple user?

Honestly the external HDD won't do much if your ram is maxing out. If your motherboard is good enough then a ram upgrade is the answer. If not a PC upgrade is...I've build a number of PCs it's cheap easy and saves you a TON of money.

So whats causing the memory to max out. :-\

Uninstall programs you don't need/use.

Then download and install CCleaner (freeware):
- Run Cleaner to remove all the unnecessary crap (temp files, cache etc)
- Run Registery to tidy this part up
- Run Tools / Startup and Disable all unwanted programs that otherwise run in the background (Adobe reader, Java Update scheduler etc)

* fingers crossed *

If you computer is running hot then it wont be doing any of the components inside any good at all and can cause all sorts of issues.  PC's, especially if you have pets can get really bunged up with dust and hair. The first thing I would do is get yourself a can of compressed air open your PC up and blow all the crap out especially from around the fans. Make sure you do this outside BTW.

As for the RAM it is very easy and cheap to upgrade. You should be able to upgrade to 4GB for about £25 or so if not cheaper depending on your type of RAM. Go to http://eu.crucial.com/eur/en/systemscanner and it will scan your system and find compatible RAM.

As far as your Pictures go I would sign up to Microsoft's Cloud(OneDrive) and backup your Pictures there. You get 15GB free.

2GB of Ram is ok memory for a newish PHONE!!!  ;D ;D

As enda says, RAM is cheap as computerchips and simple to install.
Just make sure you buy ones that are the same type as what you take out.

Try restarting in Selective Startup. That'll disable all of the clutter and background nonsense that you don't need.
If that improves the situation, then you just need restart in normal mode and do a good old cleanup of unnecessary applications, particularly ones that auto run on startup.
This Guide shows you how to restart in selective startup with just needed Microsoft processes running.

Finally, check all vents are clear and all fans are running.

If the computer is running 'hot' as in physically getting warm then its almost certainly a ventilation problem. Be brave and get the screw drivers out and take it apart. your best bet is to clean out all the dust and hairs from the circuit boards and from around the fan, heatsink and air vents. Try google for a video of someone taking apart your particular computer. MAKE SURE ITS PLUGGED OUT AND/OR TAKE OUT THE BATTERY IF ITS A LAPTOP...
Making room on the hard drive by backing up files to an external HD might help a bit aswell. but use ccleaner or something similar to get rid of any programmes that waste ram when you dont need them. I use Pcdecrapifier from here http://pcdecrapifier.com/ It spits out a list of whats running on your computer and lets you select what to get rid of.

You said yesterday that you have a new copy of windows 7 or 8. I highly recommend doing a clean install of the operating system with it. Nobody should be on vista anymore.

And look at the ventilation too as the above people have said.
