Perlick Taps from the America

So I'm thinking of ordering some flow controll SS taps from America with all the shanks etc. Does anyone know what the possible import duty would be? Or if there is any way of avoiding this?

If the item is of low value (<E22) or they can't easily assign a value to it then it will go through uncharged, this assumes that your seller in the US will send by USPS (United States Postal Service).  At all costs avoid the ebay international shipping service and those who send it through FedEx or any other courier service operating a 'customs cleared service' as you will be charged well in excess of the actual charges.

The most you can be charged on an item under E125 in value is 23% VAT plus the An Post admin fee of E6.

For SS fittings I would be very surprised if your parcel was stopped, they're after branded electronics/laptops, branded clothing and eyewear. I had a whole rigmarole with a pair of (prescription) sunglasses which I appealed and got the charges waived.  They're not beyond assigning a notional Revenue value to items (as they do with cars) as most people don't realise you can challenge them and have the rate based on what you actually paid.

Here's the relevant Revenue circular http://www.revenue.ie/en/customs/leaflets/postal-guide.pdf

Thanks for the reply. It will likely be $500 worth of stuff so I will prob get it insured etc. I'll check id USPS do that.

I have friends over there so I could possibly get it delivered to them and then get them to send it on marked as a "present".

Duty will be under 2% plus VAT added at 23% is what you might expect. :(

I ordered through Kegworks and all charges etc are calculated at the checkout, very handy

I went through keg connection for my perlicks & shanks etc & they're sound enough to mark down the value to 49 usd so no duty. Always worth asking. US companies usually say no but these guys & stainless brewing both sorted me out like that. Sound.
On tap: Flanders, Gose,
Fermenting: Oatmeal Brown, 200ish Fathoms,
Ageing: bretted 1890 export stout.
To brew:  2015 RIS, Kellerbier, Altbier.

So they just put that on the declared value?

Keg connection will ship "spare parts" rather than new goods ;)

I tried to ask them about this but they didn't really bite and they said they could not change the value. I might have to chance it.

I got done for some taps, shanks and other parts a few months back. The charge was way over what it should have been. Couldn't be arsed appealing it,  >:(

Sorry to hear that man. I'm after getting them delivered to my mate in New York now coz I didn't want to risk a €200 import bill. They'll hopefully make their way over here in the next month or so when he has visitors.

I tried that when I was living in Dublin, got pulled for paying import duty, anyway.  I think they specifically go after the items marked "present"...

I don't know why they even make and sell non-forward sealing taps given how much better the forward sealing Perlick / Micromatic ones are...

I'm SUPER surprised some Chinese Alibaba Express seller hasn't just disregarded the patent and started selling these for cheap, too... Hmm... Maybe need to do a new search.

I've bought a bulkhead fitting from these guys before it arrived in about 10 days and was kosher.

Those guys are legit. I bought all my Keggle and mash tun fittings from them and they were all great.

I think there's two sellers in aliexpress doing these. I looked at one of the reviews and some chap said that all of his were leaking. I'm sure they have similar stuff but the internals might not be up to scratch. I'd be tempted to buy one for the craic though.
