Will be hitting the offy after work today (hell, I deserve a treat!  :P), and looking for something different - can anyone recommend a decent Helles lager?

Will be around Smithfield in Dublin, so have access to some pretty decent offys - Drinkstore, Fresh, Tesco.

I like Schiehallion by Harviestoun. Its a bit different (not all that crisp but fairly hoppy) but very tasty

Thanks for the recommendation Delzep, didn't find it anywhere, but will keep an eye out if I can pick it up anywhere else.

Settled on a few bottles of Augustinerbrau Helles from Drinkstore, a light enough helles with medium hopping, but very drinkable nonetheless.

Augustiner is a great choice, enjoy!

M&S and sainsburys sell versions of this beer brewed by harviestown under their own labels. Scottish Craft lager or something like that.

If M&S sell it its probably more expensive than the Schiehallion labelled stuff  :o

It wasn't the same beer but tasted close. It was £3.49 for a 750ml bottle. Don't know if they still do it.

Thanks for the heads up NeillC, never thought of M & S - now that's thinking outside the box! Another one to check out for sure :)

Helles seems to be fairly hard to get here. Had it in Germany when I was working there, and just loved that bready aftertaste, but Irish retailers seem focused on other styles at the moment.
