1. Thank you, it's a very much a team effort to get it organised. :)
2. Being a member of the club gives you access to discounts to our affiliates, access to group buys, e.g. Apple juice, cornie kegs, hops, ...
It gives you access to members in your local club, access to training, competitions, brew days, etc (I know not everyone is a member at these events, but without members supporting the hobby, enthusiasm falls off)
And now, it gives you a preferential offer to attend the conference, the first of its scale in Ireland aimed purely at you, the homebrewers.
Worth a tenner, I think so.

AboutThe National Homebrew Club (NHC) is Ireland's single biggest collective of homebrewers, with representation in all four provinces.
Established in 2011, it was founded to fulfil the needs of homebrewers in Ireland.
The NHC has gone from strength to strength, currently with over 250 full members and 1,000 associates of the Club. It is a non-profit organisation, run entirely by volunteers from all four corners of the island and it has put home brewing back on the map. The club caters specifically for needs of home brewers, providing advice through a local club network and an active online forum.
The NHC's biggest event every year is the National HomeBrew Championships, with over 450 entries in 2015; judging beer to international standards, by 60 qualified BJCP judges and commercial brewers.
The primary role of the NHC is to improve the standard of home brewed beer and support those parties that want to make their hobby commercial. Over 12 homebrewers, who have come from within our ranks, have taken the plunge to go commercial in the last number of years.
It is active in promoting a range of activities include brewing demonstrations, organising training (BJCP), Little Talks sessions, managing & supporting local and national competitions. For further information about this event please visit our conference website www.nhcconference.com (http://www.nhcconference.com) or please contact brewcon@nhcconference.comRead about us on our Website (http://www.nationalhomebrewclub.com)

Great work lads. This week is dragging on too long!!!
Plans have changed for the weekend so unfortunately I won't be able to make this or the AGM.
The first person to PM me can have my ticket for free
Is there an agenda yet ? I have a limited amount of time on Saturday, so would love to see what I could get out of two hours or so.
(mostly looking for advice on building a decent 50l brewery at home, equipment suppliers etc.)

The Mottly Brew is one of the sponsors for the event.
People who can't make it on Beoir and boards.ie.
Why would you rather an empty seat, seems excessive. If there is another reason just tell me, I don't mind considering I can't afford to go anyway.

http://www.nhcconference.com/the-agenda/ (http://www.nhcconference.com/brewcon-2015-what-they-did/) it's a bit out of date but should give you an idea. the final version I believe will be in the goodybag / on the personalized nametag lanyards we've had printed. Rory might be your best man for the 50L Brewery. The reception would be a good chance for chatting to the speakers directly but that's in the evening, not sure how that fits into your plan?
Edit: agenda linked is now up to date. See you all tomorrow!

Well done to organisers, really enjoyed the day. Looks like an annual event in the making with a big standard to maintain
All I can say is:
"What a fantastic day - major well done to the core team who did ALL the hard work to bring this today"
At least two of the "internationally experienced" speakers said that this was the best run/organised event they had attended.
So once again: Fekin well done yoy Fekers!
Looks like it was an outstanding day. Well done to all the organisers; a serious amount of effort went into this!
That was a really great day, well done and thanks to everyone involved in putting it together! I'd say we're all a little bit tipsy on the way home now :)

Jesus, what a day!
Massive respect to the organisers for doing this. You've really set the bar VERY high. I can't think how it could have been improved. Really useful for me in all sorts of ways. I learned so much.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Today was brutal. Brutally great!!(is that a thing)
Seriously lads. Brilliant. Like I said to James, how you gonna follow that up?
Personally all I have to do is pay the bills on behalf of the club but I know the amount of work the lads have done to make this happen. It is a credit to them that we have had such a professional and truly wonderful day. :)
P.s. did anyone get the shits at what the speaker on water said :(

What an absolute triumph of a day, it was just brilliant. All the segments were top notch, though I'd have loved to listen to Ben from Faram's for longer. The "world hop tour" he did was absolutely fascinating to me and it was a pity he had to motor through it near the end. Perfectly understandable though, with so many quality contributors, strict scheduling was very important and contributed great to the day's success.
The beers were great too, thanks to the pro brewers for such generosity.
Like everyone else, I'm so impressed by the organisational capabilities of some of the members of this club. Take a long bow lads, you should feel very proud of yourselves today.
I'm disappointed to be missing the AGM today, but I'm on childminding duty, paying the price for my gallavanting yesterday.

️ Have a great day, and go easy on the sauce...

If you live in Raheny the expression "get the lead out" has added meaning :o
Also when health and safety was the opening topic I noticed many slinging down in their seats as the don't do this points were being made. Personally I sat straight up ;)
Personal favorites were chris yeast talk and the combination of both water talks stood out. Safety was worthy of its place in there alright and a good opener. Great venue and generous sponsors too. Cant wait for next years edition. Organisers did a brilliant job.

Not the image I was looking for while having my breakfast. :-X
Chatting again today after the AGM their was quite a bit of chat about the H&S presentation by Rory. It has really made me more aware and I even woke up this morning thinking about how can I be safer at home, lift less and ensure my hobby doesn't cost me more than just a few bob and my time
My beside locker has been emptied of 'earth fittings'... Ahem - might start work on keggle.
Just to add another thanks to all the conference organisers, and everyone who worked so hard to make it all happen!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed the day, and everything from the conference website to the line up of speakers was an absolute triumph - well done ;)

Cringe-worthy stuff! I like the idea of fermenting in glass, but in practice, I know it just wouldn't work for me. I ferment in the house, and with the kids around, it's not worth the risk.
Disgusted I missed this. Only saw it was on last week and the wife already had plans made. Will definitely be there next year.
Btw- did the brew dog guy give any details about 5am saint hop schedule? (have a clone of this waiting to be dry hopped)
The slides would be great.
Well he did say that the hop edition on one of the beers was 800 fooking kilos :o. No wonder there is a hop shortage. Almost 1 ton of hops and they send it in to the vessel by way of a compressed air shoot. :)
Quotedid the brew dog guy give any details about 5am saint hop schedule?
Can't remember any details of the 5am saint, just the hopping of Punk IPA - a lorry load of whirlpool additions :)
Brew Dog's hop cannon looks like this -
(https://www.brewdog.com/uploaded_images4/hop_cannon_620.jpg)
If we do run out of hops for home brewers I'm taking my pitchfork to Brewdog to reclaim some. Who's with me? :P
It really was a fantastic day and was brilliantly orgainised. Well done lads
Ciaran did give the malt bill for Dead Pony so i bet we'll all be trying to brew that next
Wasn't Dead Pony with 101% Malt bill?
Punk IPA is 1000% Hop bill...
you're right. I didn't notice that before

I did spot that but he was a little nervous speaking to such an audience that it would have being rude to correct him :)

Aside from the numbers adding up, what exactly do you think "20% Cara" means? Carapils? Caramalt? Just light crystal?
I also think that's a lot of very dark crystal for DPC.. Not that I'm suggesting they're intentionally misleading people, but I just don't see that recipe working on my system anyway.

pretty sure it is caramalt but i'll have to check my notes for sure
But percentages of what basic weights. A lot of people say that they use x% of this to y% of that with a few 5 b's and c' added.
But they don't state a total weight is 7 kg for a 5 gallon brew!
Or am I missing something?
QuoteBut they don't state a total weight is 7 kg for a 5 gallon brew!
That's a good point actually, but I think you could get pretty close by taking the ABV into consideration. The ABV of PIPA is 5.6% I think, so tweak the grain bill to give that %, and you've got your basic weight, for a given volume.
Of course there's the added complication of brew house efficiency, but having a target ABV can be a help at least.
What he said.
Once you know the Target ABV, pick your yeast, apply your attenuation and figure OG and FG.
Did he mention caramunich on the day?
Any chance that PDF's of the various presentations will be made available here??
Yeah, it would be excellent if the speakers would be willing to make their presentations available. A few of them had to speed up towards the end. It would be good to see what we missed!
especially the hops presentation
