Just wanted to check, I put my name down to steward at the Belfast leg, is that OK if you're putting entries in as well?

This is not a problem there will be a check box on your entries to indicate if you are volunteering as a steward or judge, just tick it and it ensures you are not judging or presenting your own beer, it did happen a few times in the past but the judges take zero steer from stewards even though a judge may offer a steward an occasional taste. I not sure if the steward I had from last year has forgiven me as I kept presenting the howlers to him, it was all about the education   :P

Its a great experience for a steward as you get to see first hand whats involved in running a comp and what judges are looking for in beer or not and tastes of some pretty amazing beer as well.  If you intend on having a go at BJCP exam longer term, I'd say its compulsory. :)

Category 30A. Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer

BJCP Beer Style Guidelines – 2015 Edition

30. SPICED BEER
We use the common or culinary definitions of spices, herbs, and vegetables, not botanical or scientific ones. In general, spices are the dried seeds, seed pods, fruit, roots, bark, etc. of plants used for flavoring food. Herbs are leafy plants or parts of plants (leaves, flowers, petals, stalks) used for flavoring foods. Vegetables are savory or less sweet edible plant products, used primarily for cooking or sometimes eating raw. Vegetables can include some botanical fruit. This category explicitly includes all culinary spices, herbs, and vegetables, as well as nuts (anything with 'nut' in the name, including coconut), chile peppers, coffee, chocolate, spruce tips, rose hips, hibiscus, fruit peels/zest (but not juice), rhubarb, and the like. It does not include culinary fruit or grains. Flavorful fermentable sugars and syrups (agave nectar, maple syrup, molasses, sorghum, treacle, honey, etc.) can be included only in combination with other allowable ingredients, and should not have a dominant character. Any combination of allowable ingredients may also be entered.

Is The Oslo Bar in Galway a drop-off point this year? It is listed as being one under competition rules but is not available to select from the drop-down menu on registration page. Thanks.

Hey all, it's my first time entering this year and I noticed that we need to secure the form to the bottle via an elastic band. Do we just pierce the label/form provided by the entry and attach one each to the bottle or what way do I do it?

Just wrap the label around the bottle and secure with an elastic band (see image below). The reason for the elastic is to allow the labels to be removed easily when the bottles are being sorted.

Important:

Do not use Sellotape to attach the labels -  elastic bands only.

What do we use to attach the €50 note for the judges?
