Now, After a sunny afternoon of applied mathematics ('n beers O0) and somer cask guestimates, I  reckkon that we need a minimum of 140 litres to fill one of these. We have two and they are not the same size!!

So, it looks like we need 8 shares(ish) to fill and top up said casks and have a bit over!

I also made the stillages today! [Posh name for 4 bits of curved wood with a flat bottom]

More news tomorow!

If we wait a few more weeks there will be some nice new shiny fermenters that arriving that will make sure we have enough going in.
If we went with 30l shares? If possible.

That is actually a good and interesting point. How do we transport that much beer though - just in the fermenter after clearing out the trub? I'm worried about oxidisation with headspace and no pressure.

More the point that every time we do a brew we plan and people say 25L but turn up with a corny. If we brew a few L over each just to be sure we have enough. I plan on transporting in the juice drums. Think they are 25L? Top right to the top, flush with co2 and seal it up.
Should be good to go. As long as the drums are 25L. I could be wrong.

Jacob

We never had any issues with oxidisation with all previous cask 'projects'. However we had some problems with carbonated cornies :/

Cool - juice drums it is. They're oxygen permeable, so will want to brew close to the time. I was aiming for 23L with the RIS, but came short at about 20L. Using partial mash and DME/LME next time, as those big mashes really are a ballache.

I would like to order the RIS ingredients tomorrow and get brewing ASAP.

What is the definitive recipe we brewed? I can't find it in my BrewBase and searching the threads is a bit iffy to say the least!
