Hey lads, I just had a look at these and i do not think they have recirculation pumps. If Cara is around, are you sure these have recirc pumps?
According to the Data sheet it depends on the model.

Issue No: 5
STANDARD PRODUCT OPTIONS
CTX 25
48 1130 102 2 product coils, 6.8m long, 9.5mm (3/8") O.D. with agitator
48 1130 108 2 product coils 6.0m long, 9.5mm (3/8") O.D. with recirculation pump.

Check the serial numbers to confirm.

Cathal PM sent to try arrange collection later this afternoon. Will take one either way but would prefer one with the recirculation pump if it has one.

Very hard to tell from the photo, but if they have 4 pipes they have two circuits, 6 pipes is two circuits and recirc. I think I can only see 6 pipes on one of them.
Ye that's what I thought. There is only one with recirc and i'm gonna hang on to that one. So  lads if you are still interested let me know.

Tom

You can stilll use them to cool, except you'll need a seperate circulation pump. I'm using one now to chill the hosepipe water down before it goes through the immersion chiller. Just pushing the Bud Lite through where the water would go, or the other way round, sorry.

Hey guys, they can be collected from Wednesday evening. I'll PM everyone tomorrow with the address and my phone number.

Just saw de update re the pumps. If no pump im out so. My offer was for pumped version :)

mcgrath

Tried mine out lastnight. Working great.  Really happy.  Theres a water level sensor in mine  to turn the refrigerator part on. I initially had about 5 litres of water in it just to see if it was working. I could hear the pump but it wasn't cooling. I started adding water and I heard a click and the cooler start up. Only put 5 litres in coz I knew I'd have to empty it again to move it. But should have just filled it at the beginning..

Thanks again cno1, gonna use this to chill my wort next week. looking forward to seeing how much time it saves.

No problem McGrath, glad you are happy with it.
I still have 1 (or possibly 2) left if anyone else is interested?

alealex

Looking forward to collect mine in the near future.
@mcgrath: same thing happened to me with my last cooler. use to think its not working till I filled it with water properly :-)
Bad day brewing is better than good day working.

You'll need to get the wort down to below 35-40C before passing it through a beer chiller.
Also remember to flush it well with hot water afterwards to get the sticky wort out completely.
They're designed to chill liquid a pint at a time from room temperature, not 20L at a time from scalding.

mcgrath

Plan is to hook hose up to cooler. Then up to Copper chiller. Essentialy sending colder water through chiller than from tap. Wort stays in boiler.  Have I missed something?

LordEoin

Ahh ok, that should work fine. I thought you were thinking of passing the hot wort through the chiller into the FV, to save wasting water :)

mcgrath

done two brews using this to pass cold water through the chiller. Really shortened my brewday. Used to take ages to get down the last 10deg or so. I meant to time it both times but got distracted but its a huge improvement. If I never use it as a beer cooler its still worth it..cheers!
