How do you remove your own posts in this new setup here? I don't see any option in the posts themselves to allow the person whose name is down as opening the thread to delete it if he so wishes ???

Just edit the post and delete the text

Greg2013

Yes and what if there is a few pages of replies, what then? :)

suppose you'd have to contact a mod if you want a thread deleted. deleting posts is done as I said earlier

Greg2013

Ok but my question is why do we need to contact a mod at all? If the posts are ours should we not have the ability to delete them as we see fit without having to ask someone else?

If its my thread why the hell not ? Not getting at you tube butthat makes no sense to me. If i start an article/thread and 50 people reply its still my thread and i should be able to delete it at any given stage. This happened in the last site as well and its bloody irritating tbh.

It's not your thread. The original post was yours but the thread is commonwealth.
Everybody on the thread should be able to remove their own posts if they choose, but it wouldn't be fair to people who took time and effort to reply if you could just delete all THEIR answers.
It would lead to people not bothering to reply in detail.

I alway's see threads as the written down opening bit of banter that we here in Ireland are good at. We all from time to time open up a conversation with a bit of shite talk (with the exception of myself :)) that we later may feel we should'nt have said, but hey,I prefer to know someone who does this from time to time then to have to talk to someone as prefect as me :-*.

I am sorry Lord eoin but i dont agree and while i have not read the forum rules recently i am pretty sure thats not in there(open to correction). If i start it then i have the right to finish it at any time of my choosing,If the thread is not mine then why the hell would i ever bother posting knowing i am giving up total control of something i started?

If a persons intellectual property is not their own then have we suddenly become North Korea or something? If 50 people send in replies then any semi intelligent person surely would recognise that the originator of the thread can do as he or she wishes with the thread that THEY started. If they decide to delete it then i'm sorry but thats tough titty on the rest and is irrevelant really IMHO.

What started all this has still not been acknowledged by the person that did it. Thats the reason for this thread/post. While threads are and should always be for the benefit of all, the fact remains they ARE and always should be the property of the originator. If it were a legal situation the originator would be the responsible party first and foremost and would be seen by law as the rightful owner, why is this any different?

Touch of "i am the law and you must obey" creeping in here lads IMHO.

Scenario: I stand in Front of Leinster house and start shouting 'They are all gobshites' repeatedly. (We know this is true, but thats another story!)
The media come along and I'm on RTE news, TV, Headlines in the Papers etc.
I become known as the person who claimed that 'They are all gobshites'.

Can I chase the media and get them not to say that I said what I said? I can try.
But once its out there, its out there.

Forums are no different in this respect from the Media in general.
If you have posted something defamatory and it has had time to bed in, just post an apology.
If what you posted is in Error, post a correction in the OP, Note the change by way of [EDIT:...] or similar, then post again saying that you have corrected the OP.

We are all adults here, and sometimes stuff gets posted in haste, or after a few pints (Remember, we like making and drinking Beer!), but because we are all intelligent adults and life is short, we kiss, make up, and get back to brewing beer and shiteing on again.

What if someone copied what you said and posted this on another forum? Should the Mods on here try and clean that up too?

There have been 105 reads of this thread and 17+ replys including your own. These stats suggest that people are interested in the subject and care enough to help provide a comprehensive answer.

Is there something you need removed?
