Or maybe your hydrometer....

baphomite51

Checked it in some tap water and was spot on 1.000. Still the beer should be at 1.013 so it's miles off and I hit my OG fine.

irish_goat

What temperature is it at now?

baphomite51

between 16-18 C, i just turned the heat on in the room so im gonna try bring it up to around 22C and give it a gentle swish, think would that help?

baphomite51

ok iv just realised im very confused is this reading 1.000 or 1.010, this is the tap water from my house in dublin 12 is this normal? wat should it read? and wat is the reading.

delzep

1.000

Another D12 brewer?

Interesting....

baphomite51

ahhhhhh RIT! I think i may have made a mistake, instead of my beer being 1.024 it may be 1.014, feckin hydrometers  :P. but yes D12 brewer, kimmage to be exact, you wouldn happen to have any water reports for d12 would ya?

delzep

So your OG is down by 10 points too?

I'm in Clondalkin but was in a D12 brewers house this evening (supped on a fine beer of his too). Use to work in Kimmage a couple of years ago.

Could get a D12 and surrounding areas tasting session going in Sheary's as the owner is up for it

yup i was reading the scale wrong thank god.

that is a fantastic idea, i still havent been into it although i seen there was a homebrew demonstration there a while ago the owner seems passionate bout his craft beers. i think its a great idea and somethin we should look into specially if theres a few of us in the area

delzep

That was me who did the homebrew demo

baphomite51

Ah Rit fair play was there much interest in it? Did u ever bring the beer back down for a tasting or anything?

delzep

I had one or two of them...entered it into a competition and it scored 25/50 (fermentation temperature being a problem). Gave the rest back to the pub...dunno what happened them after that

I can have a word with the pub and sort out a tasting if theres gonna be interest

baphomite51

Get a thread goin about it and see wat happens I'm up for it anyway

baphomite51

Bottled this up today it finished at 1.012, sample tasted great can't wait for it to carb up, all seems ok except for some little bits that got into the bottles any idea wat it is, Id say hops but I'm nearly sure they weren't there until it started to ferment or maybe they just became apparent then, could it be yeast?

baphomite51

so cracked open a bottle of this tonight and its pretty good, although i am a lil dissapointed, its a lovely pale ale and drinkable but its not what i was shooting for. its got a citrussy orange/pinapple flavor to it the aroma is identical to and old orange/pinapple drink my mother used to buy, i think i over did it with the hop combination its just too much complexity, i wish i went with citra/simcoe or simcoe/amarillo, my last one i done was citra/amarillo and it was great, it had big pineapple notes but it was let down by the malt profile and FG (first pale ale i brewed). also i think im done with munich i feel its adding too much sweetness to my beers? or maybe its just that it finished a bit high, i prefare a more refreshing crisp dry beer, im gonna try simcoe and amarillo next and simcoe and centennial after that if they dont work ill be goin back to citra and amarillo.
