Tentative microbrewery start-up seeks daring kick-ass brewer

Hi all,

I'm in the latter stages of a feasibility study on a potential microbrewery start-up in the Dublin or Greater Dublin area. I'm quite passionate about beer and feel I have a lot to offer on the business side of things. However, I know nothing of the brewing side and I'm astute enough not to pretend I do. Therefore I need an adventurous brewer who is willing to work long and hard with me to build a company from scratch.

So if you are, or know someone with the skill to produce excellent beer for market, who wants to work hard full-time and is up for long days and hopefully some craic, let me know!

Thanks!

brenmurph

May help to say where ur planning to base. If a brewer is working long hard days and then has to battle a commute home he / she may not survive the first month. Why long hard days? Surely a good business will cost out staffing without breaking working time directive?

  • Read the first line again.
  • How right you are. Only "good" businesses work 37.5 hours per week.
  • I am not looking for an employee. I am seeking a business partner.

Hay Horse.... Heh heh (sorry it was out there) Your in the right place to find a man to suit what your looking for!

As an expressions of interest I think the greater Dublin area is a fair enough location at this stage (and the hint might be in the title, or is that just a rouse!!!). When people go for the interview they can get the details. I know if I was setting up a brewery in the "greater Tipperary area" I wouldn't be giving too much away until I was face to face with prospective candidates. The interview location will probably tell a lot.

A multi-national competition winning brewer like yourself Bren would a shoe in. East Kildare Greater Dublin.... that's the same place Yeah?

The rumor mill here is rampant! Some one here probably recommended Mr Horse to post here!

You can't go home when you have a slow run off or stuck sparge no matter how long you are there!

Did someone mention a 37.5 hour week, ye must never have being self employed before so ;). You will find plenty of good quality young brewers here that are flexible and inventive to adapt to the changing craft beer market. You mention you can bring to the table good business skills which is what is needed just as important. :).

Thanks guys for the positive comments!

Just to be clear, I am seeking a brewer who would like to be a business partner in a microbrewery, not an employee. Experience, talent and can-do attitude are the most important factors.

When your are doing something you love it's not a 37.5 hour working week, in fact it's not work at all!

brenmurph is right, Dublin is a big old place. Might make a huge difference to potential partner/employee whether you're thinking of siting your brewer in Shankill or Balbriggan.

There's going to be a lot of competition out there. Fair enough, craft beer is on an upwards trajectory, but can the craft beer drinking public support all of these new breweries? I did wonder at the RDS if all of the breweries there would still be in existence in a couple of years time..

The ones making good beer and charging a reasonable price will be.

Hi Dark Horse,
Can you give us a bit more detail on the the size of the system you are considering in terms of 1000L per batch? Also the projected number of batches per week and number of beers in the core range?
In terms of a partnership mentioned what kind of capital contribution would you be looking for from the partner? What kind of partner structure are you proposing?
Thanks

LordEoin

Also, who can you provide as your references Dark Horse?
No offence, but we don't know you from Adam and your first post on here is looking for money and labor.
Being 'quite passionate about beer' is hardly the most solid of foundations for a business in a craft you know nothing about.

Brewing skills alone are no guarantee of business success and OP was fairly clear their skills were on the business side and TBH I don't think they need to justify their bona fides, other than to that elusive business partner.
