Galway Home Brewers Club January Meeting

The first meeting of 2013 for the Galway Home Brewers Club took place recently at local makerspace 091Labs. A switch to Friday evenings saw one of our biggest turnouts yet and of course gives people a chance to relax without the worry of work in the morning!
The January meet is always an interesting event for homebrewers, the Christmas brews are still doing the rounds and regardless of whether a brew was crafted to please the masses of visitors over the holidays or to savour by the fireside on a cold night, the standard of brewing remains incredibly high.

Tonight was no exception and with nine home brewers showing off sixteen beers it promised to be a great evening.

The beers on offer throughout the night showed off the various brewing methods of individual brewers with kits, extract and all grain brews well represented and with each method comes discussions and tips and questions and always good friendly banter!

When a debate got going on electric vs gas boilers, Sean coined the tagline for the night that rings true for so many electric brewers (which could find its way onto a T-shirt yet! hint, hint Tom!);

The beers themselves were some of the finest to have graced a Galway Home Homebrewers meeting since we started regular meets. Most styles were covered from the light to the dark and from the malty to the hoppy! Too many beers to list, but special mentions for Joe’s Irish Stout, Eanna’s Ginger Beer, Tom’s St Peter’s IPA and voted beer of the night Kevin’s American Pale Ale.

We moved on from 091Labs to take over a snug in the Townhouse Bar around the corner; the latest bar offering craft beer in Galway where the chat and the discussions and the laughing continued and this happened.

A big thank you to all who made it to the meeting and for Tom for taking the lots of photos.

And of course massive thanks to 091 Labs for giving us the use of the premises god only knows where we’d be without you!
